OLIS (Orchestra Library Information Service) was created in the early 1980’s, by ASOL (American Symphony Orchestra League), with Marshall Burlingame as principal researcher. At first an index card format, it was soon computerized. By the 1990’s, however, it began to suffer from lack of both maintenance and updating.
