Mango Tree has evolved from a company that was focused on primary education to one that now provides innovative teaching tools and training for village-based educators in any field. Reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, agriculture, rural finance, water/sanitation, and early childhood education are some of the areas in which we’re working. The common denominator is our participatory, learner-centered methodology, emphasis on local languages or simple English, and use of simple, durable materials that can be replicated locally. We’ve always been a customer-driven business, but now we are trying to be more proactive in defining the projects in which we are involved, at the same time collaborating with a range of stakeholders. I’m in the process of trying to find funding to pilot an early primary literacy project that will make a significant contribution toward solving the challenge of making mother tongue education work in a country with many indigenous languages.
