Whats New with the CDA Credential?

The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is nationally recognized in the early childhood field as a professional credential awarded to skilled child care providers. The Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition (The Council) administers the CDA credentialing program (see “Staff Credentialing Programs Improve Skills,” in the Child Care Bulletin, May/June 1995). Currently, more than 90,000 providers have obtained the CDA credential and that number is rising. The number of child care providers applying for the CDA credential each year has grown to nearly 10,000 as a result of an increase in demand from many public and private employers for trained, qualified staff. In addition, 46 states and the District of Columbia incorporate the CDA into their licensing regulations.
