Chevrolet has made significant mechanical and styling upgrades to its Monte Carlo coupe this year. The major mechanical change is the introduction of a trio of new engines. Last year’s normally aspirated engines were fuel-efficient but not particularly sporty. They’ve been replaced by two new V6s with variable valve timing. There’s a 211-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 for the entry-level LS and mid-grade LT trim and a 240-hp, 3.9-liter V6 that’s standard on the new luxury-oriented LTZ trim and optional on the LT. The performance-biased SS trim, meanwhile, drop kicks its supercharged V6 in favor of a 303-hp, 5.3-liter V8. Other hardware updates include a revised suspension and upgraded brakes with a better ABS system.
