Whats New for the 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
Chevrolet has made significant mechanical and styling upgrades to its Monte Carlo coupe this year. The major mechanical change is the introduction of a trio of new engines. Last year’s normally aspirated engines were fuel-efficient but not particularly sporty. They’ve been replaced by two new V6s with variable valve timing. There’s a 211-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 for the entry-level LS and mid-grade LT trim and a 240-hp, 3.9-liter V6 that’s standard on the new luxury-oriented LTZ trim and optional on the LT. The performance-biased SS trim, meanwhile, drop kicks its supercharged V6 in favor of a 303-hp, 5.3-liter V8. Other hardware updates include a revised suspension and upgraded brakes with a better ABS system. On the inside, there’s an updated instrument panel, standard side airbags and upgraded front airbags, new seats, and feature-improved audio systems. OnStar telematics is also standard this year.
