Whats Lofting, and do I really need to learn how to do it?
Lofting is the process of drawing full-sized patterns from a set of lines and a table of offsets. Lines and Offsets are a very efficient way for Naval Architects to convey to professional boatbuilders how to curve a shapely hull. For novice boatbuilders, its not so efficient, and youll likely spend more time trying to learn how to loft than you will building. So the good news is, none of our designs require lofting. Most of our boats are based on a much more simple method of building which doesnt require the use of elaborate jigs and frames, so the need to loft them is eliminated. Of course, you can still take the time to learn to loft if you want, just for the nostalgia, in which case, you might also be interested in reading the FAQ above regarding the use of hand tools.
