Whats ITIL® Refresh, and whats the motivation for it?
ITIL® Refresh is a global effort to update ITIL® in line with current business requirements and best IT practices. It was launched by the UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC) and independent organization itSMF International in December 2004. The ITIL® Refresh aims to “focus on easier implementation and improved business benefits from the use of ITIL®”. The Refresh was introduced in two phases: a six-month consultation and planning stage followed by a two-year incremental development stage to update core publications. These efforts culminated in the publication by OGC of the scope and plan in December 2005. Essentially the scope and plan lead to the production of five new core books. Based on these books a new ITIL® V3 qualification scheme was developed and released in June 2007. No existing IT Service Management qualifications will be invalidated by the changes, because the core principles remain unchanged.
