Whats it take to paint the yellow line down the middle of the road?

A. Many of the yellow and white lines in the center and on the edge of the roadways are painted on using a water-based paint. In recent years, PennDOT has been using a more durable epoxy material on some highways, especially the Interstates. Each year our line painting crews in PennDOT District 4-0 use more than 150,000 gallons of paint and 1,000,000 lbs. of glass beads (for reflectivity). That’s enough material to paint a 6-inch wide line that’s 10,000 miles long!
