Whats it Take to Lose 1 Pound of Fat per Week?
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 This is a question that I hear a lot. It seems that most people understand that in order to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you bring in. However, what most people don’t understand is how many calories more they need to burn in order to lose one pound per week. Here’s the simple breakdown. There are 3500 calories in one pound of fat. If you were to consume 2000 calories per day, and burn 2500 calories per day, you would be at a caloric deficit of -500. Multiply this deficit by 7 days in the week, and you have a total of -3500 resulting in a loss of one pound of fat. So the short answer is that you simply need to burn 500 more calories every day of the week than you eat in order to lose one pound of fat. As a personal trainer I ask my clients to strive for at least one pound a week, hopefully hitting two pounds. This requires them to burn 1000 more calories every day.
