Whats it like writing for Frobisher?
It’s an awkward thing. When you first get the commission you have to obviously pretend that was always your dying dream was to write for a penguin. I was initially quite worried about the idea of writing a shape-shifting bird for an audio CD, because it isn’t really an audio device. I got quite nervous, so I went away and read a lot of the Doctor Who comics and thought he was a great character. I had to try and find a way of making all those very obviously comic strip visual gags not get bogged down too much in the audio medium. Because he’s not a typical companion – he’s not somebody who will get locked up, and isn’t somebody who’s actually going to defer to the Doctor – he’s actually great fun to write for. He just began dictating the story far more, so actually that made it a lot more fun for me. So the penguin was actually quite hard work. I thought he was a bit of a one trick pony if you’ll pardon the not quite pun there. How did you feel about doing more Frobisher adventures? The
