Whats it like to study Architecture?
I think studying architecture and becoming an architect are two different somewhat loosely related pursuits. Becoming an architect takes years of practice honing skills to manage projects, clients, contractors in addition to a deep understanding of materials, culture and design. Studying architecture, I agree with the previous answer, depends on where you go to school, however most architecture school aren’t just a prep course for the practice of architecture but a course in learning about the layering and negotiation of multiple systems of theory, structure and design, in a protected academic environment. I no longer practice architecture having jumped ship to first information architecture and then to user experience consulting but my architectural education has remained relevant and consistently provide insights concerning the architecture metaphor-rich virtual web environment that we are so immersed in these days.
