Whats it like being the mother of a soldier deployed to Iraq?
There is a lot of pride, joy, sadness and, most of all, anxiety. Every day I wake up and wonder just what my son is doing and will he be OK. I know he is in danger. Every day, someone wants to do harm to him and the rest of the warriors fighting for our freedom. Q. What do you think about while he’s away? I have a pain that stays with me seven days a week, 24 hours a day. I am doing better this deployment because it’s not in my face every day like during his first deployment. He is away from his family, from the trivial things we do every day. He must endure long hours, dust, heat and cold. The creature comforts of home, clean sheets, hot showers, the sweet smell of his wife, walking the dog, listening to his children talk to him and all of their noises. I miss my son so much. Q.
