Whats is Special Effects Make-up Artist?
A makeup artist who specialises in creating effects which fall outside of the conventional remit of corrective, beauty and ‘straight’ makeup. Within it are various disciplines from creating three dimensional appliances (prosthetics), painting, sculpting, mould making, hairwork, wigs, contact lenses, teeth and tracking markers for digital elements to be mapped out in post-production. As there is a vast range which can be considered ‘special makeup effects’, it is best to give examples to illustrate. The Eddie Murphy makeups in the Nutty Proffessor were created by Rick Baker, a well known special makeup effects artist. Consider also the aliens from the various Star Trek series or the overweight Monica in ‘Friends’.
