Whats Irwins full character name in he History Boys?
I’m not absolutely positive about what’s said in the film version, but in the play he doesn’t get another name. I would assume that Irwin is his last name, if only because the Headmaster introduces him as “Mr. Irwin” to the boys the first time they meet him (though I know that’s still not solid proof it’s his surname) and because most of the characters are known only as their surnames (though, true, that goes mainly for the boys… as Irwin walks the line between being a “boy” and being a “man” I suppose you could argue that his name is intentionally ambiguous). As for his take on the Holocaust, it’s all about shock value and saying something that hasn’t been said. Instead of looking at history as one human being remembering the lives of other human beings, he looks at it as information, “dead ground,” to be exploited in the quest to predict how future historians will write about our recent past. He is always striving to detach himself from emotion and look simply at facts. Hector, who
