Whats involved in planting the Chinese Biodiesel Tree?
The Chinese Biodiesel Tree or Jatropha Curcas is grown from cutting or seed. The tree is very drought-resistant and is most successful in the drier regions of the tropics where the rainfall is between 300-1000 mm. The tree grows mainly in lower altitudes where the annual temperatures are above 20C. However it will grow at higher altitudes and tolerates slight frost. The Chinese Biodiesel tree requires a well-drained soils with good aeration and is well adapted to marginal soils with low nutrient content. It will produce fruit in its second year of growth and will continue to produce fruit for around 50 years.
