Nowadays, they’re high-tech pieces of equipment that are designed to be lightweight, durable and multi-sided pieces of modern ingenuity. A soccer ball has four major components: the cover, stitching, lining and bladder (And no, not a pig’s bladder anymore). If you don’t know by now, Jabulani is the official 2010 FIFA World Cup ball. Designed by Adidas, Jabulani is the first soccer ball that’s really, truly 100% round. This is because it has eight thermally bonded 3-D heat panels. These give the ball fewer seams and more “sweet spots” to create better contact, more powerful shots and more accurate aim on the field. The panels on a soccer ball can be stitched or glued together, but the best soccer balls are stitched by hand, which gives the soccer ball a stronger, tighter seam.
