Whats in WinXP?
WinXP adds a lot. • new themed GUI components • GDI+ rendering API for more ‘convergence’ between DirectX and GDI. • soap: OLE Monikers (If you dont understand that -it aint important) • COM+1.5 (maybe only when XP server ships). Export any COM+ app as a SOAP service. • Integrated passport login • Built in Terminal Services • Desktop switching • the usual API call feature creep • that activation stuff To an average app, the big changes are the theming and the fact that with desktop switching your app may be running in background mode. There is one really good thing about XP -it means that many more home users will be using NT as the code base. So we can all look forward to abandoning Win9x support a few years down the road. And we can do one unicode only build of our app for all countries.
