Whats in Phillys 25-Year Plan?
The Philadelphia City Planning Commission is nearing the end of the process to create a 25-year plan for Philly, the first comprehensive long-term plan since 1960. Given that results of the last plan include Market East development, Society Hill, commuter rail hubs in Center City and revitalization in Northeast Philly, this plan could have a long-lasting impact. Step one, the creation of a citywide plan, will be complete by the end of the year. The next step, 18 detailed district plans regarding various areas of the city, will occur over the next four or five years, laying guidelines for land usage and zoning for next five to 10 years. The plan will help dictate the redevelopment that will be needed to accommodate the projected 100,000 additional people living in the city by 2035, an estimated 4,151 acres.
