EL Gazette reports on GEOS schools around the world: ‘Geos’ Australian schools closed in February, while Geos New Zealand is now Language Centres New Zealand, under local ownership following a February buyout led by the Christchurch branch’s principal Justin Mastoyo. Geos Malta closed for the winter last September, with plans to re-open this summer. Another management buyout acquired the UK and France Geos operations, which will relaunch with a new name in May. Uri Carnet, vice-president for Geos North America, told the Gazette that the Japanese parent company’s bankruptcy delayed a sale of the profitable US and Canada schools, where it’s business as usual while a buyer is sought. The future of the Irish Geos school – not part of the European buyout – is less clear. The school currently has no management, with teaching staff running it on a day-to-day basis.’ The EL Gazette, established in 1979, is the only international newspaper in the English language, English medium education and t
