The school in Hainesport that was closed on May 4 and 5 re-opened today. • Two students in a pre-k – 12 school had influenza-like illness. • Testing for H1N1 was negative in the two students. Schools that were closed based their decisions on previous CDC guidance related to this outbreak. They may now reopen. Should schools be disinfected before re-opening? Extensive cleaning of schools by wiping down floors and walls prior to reopening is not recommended. Schools should continue their routine cleaning procedures. Will other schools be closed? As of May 5, the CDC is not recommending that schools close if they think they may have a case of novel influenza H1N1. Decisions to close should be based on faculty or student absenteeism that interferes with the school’s ability to function.
