The goal of stem cell transplantation is to restore the neuronal tissue that’s lost by neurodegeneration in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Researchers have implanted stem cells into brain tissue expecting that the cells would develop into dopamine-producing cells, but the results have been disappointing. In some cases, the tremors caused by neurodegeneration were worse than before stem cell therapy.
