What’s Going On & What Causes Eating Disorders?
Eating disorders are better considered a symptom of a different, underlying problem. Which brings up the natural question, “What’s the underlying problem?” That’s where things get more complicated. It could be a number of different possibilities, but it’s usually a feeling that one is living in a world that is out of control. Eating and weight are things that one can control, or find comfort in. If all of this sounds foreign to you, remember that the circumstances you deal with in life may be very different than others. For example, some people find the world chaotic because their parents divorced when they were very young. The same can be said of people whose parents are deceased, or those who were adopted.
