But Manuel’s proposed batting order change and his proclamations involving Daniel Murphy and Ryan Church did catch the players and some members of management by surprise. I’ll be surprised if Reyes bats third, and I don’t understand why Manuel even touched on the topic of Murphy’s bat, compared with Church’s. Manuel did get people’s attention, though. And he does acknowledge a fondness for being creative and thinking outside the box. I don’t expect any of it to cause problems. Pedro Martinez out of the ‘pen as a long reliever — think about it.
