Whats different about teaching leadership in bschool in the wake of Enron and other recent corporate scandals?
Mr. Blanchard: Leadership hasn’t been taught much in business schools. Since Enron and other scandals, they’ve added courses on ethics and things like that. What we are seeing now is the importance of leadership at the top and all throughout organizations. We’re seeing the impact leadership has on not only the economy, but the morale and satisfaction of all the stakeholders in organizations. CJ: What do you think is the best approach to teaching leadership in bschool? Very seldom do business schools get personal with their people and really take a hard look at who they are. You can’t lead somebody else if you don’t have your own act together. The transformational journey for leadership starts with finding out about yourself. The next stop is one-on-one leadership. When you look at yourself, you gain perspective, and when you learn to lead another person, you learn about building trust. The third stop is team leadership.
