Whats different about MECTT training and the training materials?
1. Four key assumptions guided the development of materials: • parent and professional teams learning together can effectively reach parents and promote systems change; • participants with diverse educational backgrounds and experiences enrich the learning process; • multicultural community-based organizations, parents, and professionals play an integral role in developing materials; and • carefully designed materials may be used interchangeably to meet a variety of needs, audiences, and settings. 2. Several cross-cutting themes are integrated throughout the materials and reinforce the content and assumptions. Numerous activities help participants apply these themes to practice. The themes include: • a broad understanding of the meaning of cultural and linguistic diversity; • the importance of family centered practices; • the need for family/professional collaborative partnerships; • a focus on culturally competent practices; and • a focus on systematic problem solving. 3. The material
