Whats Crowdsourcing?
The name comes from a combination of the words crowd and outsourcing. It’s a way for a large group of people to participate in or collaborate on a project. Typically there is an open call to an undefined group of people to perform a task or to solve a particular problem. In business, science, education and creative fields, there is the understanding that good ideas can come from anywhere, and not just from professionals in the particular field within which the problem arose. Wikipedia is the most famous example of crowdsourcing, where anyone can write, anyone can edit, and anyone can participate in the decision of whether or not to remove content. When all the contributions are averaged out, it leads to 99% accuracy. Crowdsourcing can be used for tasks as complex as solving science and engineering problems, to tasks as simple as image labeling. It is also frequently used to filter content, devise advertisements and design t-shirts and logos.
