Film Producers’ Indemnity Insurance covers the extra expenditure or financial loss (over and above budget) incurred to maintain or complete a production, following an accident to, illness or death of, a ‘named person’ occurring during the period of principle photography. In an extreme case, the production company may be indemnified for the costs involved to abandon or suspend a production, if agreed to by the Insurer. The usual ‘named person(s)’ insured are the major cast members, the director and the producer. Accident risks are covered automatically and illness cover can be included following receipt of a satisfactory ‘medical declaration’. Insurers will require the ‘named person(s)’ to undergo a medical by a nominated doctor within 7 days of cover being effective. Medical examination costs are the responsibility of the production company. The sum insured is based on the total budget less any budgetary items which would not form part of a loss under the Film Producers Indemnity Insur
