Whats causing the tile grout near my toilet to get damp?
I’ve never seen any liquid water on the floor, though repeated flushing does make the moisture worse. A: It sounds like the seal between the underside of your toilet and the drainpipe flange is leaking. Small amounts of water are probably being hidden under the toilet, wicking out in the grout lines. The drain connection on the bottom of the toilet is supposed to be made waterproof with a doughnut-shaped wax ring, though it does fail sometimes. To fix the problem yourself, empty all water from the toilet, loosen the two nuts on either side of the bowl near the floor, then lift the toilet off and set it to one side. Pay attention to the shape of the old wax ring. It’s usually easy to see where water was leaking and how to install a new wax ring to prevent it. Sometimes the drain flange is lower in the floor than it should be, and one wax ring isn’t thick enough to create a seal.
