Whats better more optical zoom or more pixels in a digital camera?

i think pixels because if you have a optical zoom and not really good pixels then when you zoom in it will be blurry or grainy

The higher number of pixels the better quality picture. optical zoom is good but get one with more pixels and a reasonable optical zoom.

Pixels don’t matter at all. All modern cameras have more than enough. Ever wonder why there are DSLR’s that cost many times more than point and shoot cameras yet have the same amount of mega pixels or less? It really is a marketing ploy. What matters is the size of the pixel not how many there are. The tiny sensors on point and shoot cameras mean that the pixels are tiny. Many tiny pixels crammed onto a tiny sensor generate a lot of heat. This heat shows up as noise on your pictures. You can print 8×10 inch prints easily from a 3mp camera. At 5 or 6mp you can do posters. Anything more than that is wasted on 99% of people. Go with the optical zoom. You only have one lens. The more it will zoom the better. Unlike an SLR you can’t change the lens if you need more. For more info on mega pixels see the attached article. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.

Every now and then this question is asked. Last time asked most people opted for megapixels, about 53%. I am a zoom guy, and prefer zoom over megapixels.
