Merrick is one of the best brands of pet foods. Some others for you to consider are Wellness, Wellness Core, Innova Evo, Natural Balance. I do not think these are necessarily superior to Merrick’s, I feed several foods to avoid fussy cats mostly. They now also eat raw 1 out of 3 meals per day.
