Whats Behind the Adidas Gazelle?
On the story of the Adidas Gazelle, this training shoe has made a huge impact on the footwear industry the world over, while giving a town named Herzogenaurach, near Hamburg, Germany, a lot of importance. The shoe was nicknamed as the ‘godfather’ of training shoes when the Adidas Company was launched in the year 1948. Name of the company was decided on by a cobbler working in Herzogenaurach, named Adolf Dassler. With the first three letters of his surname Dassler he decided to combine his nickname ‘Adi’ and thus the name ‘Adidas’ came into existence. To make the name stand out from the rivals, he also decided to use lowercase ‘a’. In the manufacture of athletic equipment and sports shoes like Gazelle, he held more than 700 patents! He is immortal as a part o the American Sporting Goods Industry Hall of Fame, as the very first non-American who has ever been honoured.
