Whats behind crackdown?
It sounds ironic to anybody to hear why the Chinese government, who is notorious for human rights violation, all of sudden began its crackdown on human traffickers. If China is deeply concerned about the rights of the victims, it not only have established shelter programs for the victims but also grand refuge status to North Korean victims to better assist them. One may speculate China’s motivation behind crackdown on traffickers based on the past incident. Prior to 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Chinese government fiercely cracked down on beggars and citizens on the street in order to clean up public venues before the Olympics began. According to BBC news, Chinese authorities feared that beggars and bad habits of Chinese citizens such as, using bad language or spitting, would taint the country’s image before the foreign visitors.
