Anyone who has managed an NT Domain or an Active Directory Domain has likely had to use a policy editor. If you’ve ever wondered where all of those policies came from or whether or not you could add your own, you can can quit now. An Active Directory Group Policy Object (or GPO) can contain many types of settings related to software distribution, security, and operating system configuration. We are going to look at the portion of the GPO that deals mostly with operating system configuration. If you open up the group policy editor (gpedit.msc), you’ll notice that there are two sections: Computer Comfiguration and User Configuration. Under each of these, there is a section called Administrative Templates, and each manages various computer and user settings, respectively.
