Remember, the GPS is only going to tell you how far you need to go and in what direction. It is not always going to tell you about the obstacles that may lie between you and your destination. Can you imagine the frustration and disappointment after a 3 mile hike to find yourself 200 yards from the cache that sits on the other side of that swamp or hundred foot gorge you just arrived at. Most GPSr devices today offer the option to upload topographic maps directly to the unit, but if your does not you can find several sources online to print a map of the area.
