Whats a steel braided brake hose and what does that do?
If you look at your street bike, you will see a black rubber tube the connects the brake lever to the calliper. This hose is entrusted with containing the incredible pressures the hydraulic system generates to activate the brakes. In practice, rubber hoses – reliable and relatively cheap – heat up, expand and flex. Now, hydraulic pressure is what pushes the brake pads against the rotor. So when this pressure is either wasted on the flex or lessened by the expansion, it weakens the efficiency and power of the brakes. Steel braided hoses use a jacket of braided steel fibres to contain the hydraulic pressure. This makes them less prone to expansion and flex bringing, without any other changes, a more consistent feel to the brakes, more power from the same setup and less fade in hard use.
