Whats a referral?
A referral is a request from your Primary Care Physician (PCP) for you to receive care from a specialist or other treatment such as hospital admissions, lab or x-ray services or outpatient procedures. If you participate in an Open Access plan, you do not need a referral from your PCP to see a specialist. For all network plans, your PCP will also obtain authorizations as required for other treatments such as hospital admissions, lab or x-ray services or outpatient procedures.
