What’s a kettlebell?
A kettlebell is a cast iron or steel weight shaped like a cannon ball with a handle on top. Originating in Russia, hundreds of years ago, the kettlebell was once used as a standard unit of measuring weight in the market place. Later, the kettlebell was used in strongman competitions and also became a standard conditioning tool for Russian military, due to it’s undeniable benefits. Evidence is also showing monks of the Shao-Lin dynasty used Chinese padlocks (a very primitive form of Kettlebell) for strength, conditioning, endurance and energy flow. Kettlebells can also be used in various ways for general fitness and their popularity continues to grow at an astonishing rate –from Kim Kardashian to Lance Armstrong, kettlebells are part of their fitness routines. Our workshop will use 8KG bells (about 18 pounds) to get participants familiar with the movement. If you can pick up an infant, you will be able to work these bells!
