Whats a hard return, and why is it bad?
A hard return is a spot in your manuscript where the Enter key has been pressed. It represents the end of a paragraph. If the Enter key has been pressed in the middle of a paragraph, the text will not be formatted properly during formatting, and the editor might not be able to see where new paragraphs are supposed to begin. To see hard returns, turn the hidden characters on in your document (in MS Word, press the button on the toolbar that’s marked with a pilcrow (ΒΆ) or type Ctrl + Shift + 8). Hard returns are shown with a pilcrow.
