Whats a good method of remembering the 50 States capitals?
The best way I found was to do geography quizzes on the net. Just type ‘geography quizz’ into Yahoo, and you’ll find some on American capitals; as well as a lot of other stuff. I find it fun to tease my American friends, many of whom don’t know the capitals, or even names ot the Australain States, by telling them I know all the American ones. This then usually leads to a quizz, and in response to one of their questions, I ask them what the capital of a state is, referring to the state nickname only. Captial of the ‘Ocean State’ (Providence, Rhode Island), or the ‘Mountain State’ (Charleston, West Virginia) often stumps them; because they don’t seem to be obvious nicknames. Why do I do this? I write short stories for a mostly American readership, and by accident learnt to ‘find my way around’.
