If you’re going to be doing any serious off-roading at all then you need to invest in a bumper/ brush guard combo. The ones that bolt on over the stock bumper really can’t take a hit at all. My favorite is ARB. I actually have the ARB bull bumper for a mid to late 90’s Tacoma on my ’99 4Runner. I love it and wouldn’t change for anything. It can take a serious pounding and is built rock solid. It also makes the 3rd gen front end look really tough. It costs more, but it’s worth it.
