Any celestial navigation book will work. What you need for Land Navigation is a sextant with a bubble horizon. Preferably an aircraft sextant. Otherwise the process is the same for land and sea. The total package will probably weigh 5-10 lbs, and be somewhat delicate to be dragging around in a backpack. Best accuracy is on the order of 1 mile. Assuming you have some idea where you are, and accurate maps of the area, you’ll do much better using landmarks and a compass.
