Whats a good afternoon pick-me-up snack?
Before you reach for a snack in the afternoon to give yourself an energy boost, be sure you really need it. Feeling tired and lethargic could be due to mild dehydration (not enough to feel thirsty) so make sure you are drinking water regularly throughout the day to prevent this. Also be aware that the post-lunch dip you experience is a natural response to food digestion and it may be better to plan to do work after lunch that requires less concentration, if this is not possible try a quick 10 minute walk in the fresh air or a coffee after lunch to boost alertness. If you do actually feel hungry choose a nutritious snack that wont play havoc with blood sugar levels; try a plain yoghurt, handful of unsalted nuts, glass of soya milk or some hummus and veggie sticks.
