These flashing utility programs are also designed to backup the current BIOS information into a file as well as provide information on the current BIOS version. Newer versions of these programs are developed to support newer flash ROM chips that come out onto the market. In some cases however, these newer flashing programs drop support for older flashable ROM chips. Usually those chips that can be found on the late model 486’s when the flashable ROM chips first started to appear and the earlier Pentium motherboards.
