Whats a digital signature? Why do I have to send both the checkout shopping cart XML and the digital signature?

You can use digital signatures, a unique alphanumeric value derived from processing the shopping cart XML through the HMAC SHA-1 algorithm, if you’ve integrated with Google Checkout via the XML API. This unique value can only be produced in conjunction with your Merchant Key. The digital signature allows Google to authenticate the shopping cart you send and verify that your cart hasn’t been tampered with during transmission. Google will reject unsigned carts by default unless you edit your account security settings. Learn more about digital signatures.
