Label has a lot to do with it, a well constructed label. A lot of it is visual. If you don’t know about wine, you go in with blinders on. You also get a lot of these “critter” wines that you know are not that serious. In the past few years, the quality of wines has moved up. You really have to work hard to make a bad wine now, because the practices in wine making and with the vineyards have improved so much. If it’s hard to make a bad wine now, then it must be easier for people to buy affordable wines that are still good. That’s true. Some parts of the world will have a bumper crop and another will have a lesser crop. Australian wines were just producing all over the place, so it goes in cycles. But sometimes you have to be careful, because you can buy a label, like it, and then go back and it will be completely different, so try and stick with an established brand name, no matter what your price range.
