The Industrial Revolution began in the mid-eighteenth century in Britain, spreading to Europe and North America and eventually the rest of the world. Advances in manufacturing and the extensive use of iron foundries, cotton mills (factories)and improved transport accelerated the huge move from agricultural to industrial societies. It was the age of great innovation with inspirational men such as Kingdom Isambard Bunuel, who designed bridges and railways etc., Robert Louis Stevenson who designed the first speed train, ‘The Rocket’, canal and road builders (sorry, their names slip my memory right now!).It was an exciting and incredible period of history and whether we like it or not shaped our develoment and brought us to where we are today.
