What year was the tanker stuck on the reef outside Port Moresby?
You may be thinking of the oil tanker, Manhattan Duke. It was pulled off the reef at the entrance to Port Moresby Harbour (Basilisk Passage) on Monday the 25th of July 1983 after spending about 10 days stuck waiting for salvage experts to arrive from Fiji and Australia. It was estimated that the salvage cost would have cost between K2 and K4 million in 1983 values. The salvage operation was lead by Ian Lockley.
