Penicillin was discovered in 1928. It was discovered by Alexander Fleming, a bacteriologist. Fleming discovered it by mistake, when he was working on an experiment that got contaminated. Even though Fleming discovered penicillin, it actually didn’t become a drug, until the 20th century.
