Compulsory education for 5 to 10 year olds was introduced in Britain through the 1880 Elementary Education Act. In 1900 higher elementary schools were recognised to provide education for 10 to 15 year olds with the 1918 Fisher Act making attendance compulsory to these up to the age of 14.
