The United States Mint still produces the Kennedy Half Dollar, but it no longer contains silver. The first Kennedy Half Dollar was produced in 1964 and contained 90 percent silver. The amount of silver was reduced to 40 percent in 1965.

Actually, the US Mint still makes silver Kennedy half dollars. However, as far as I can tell, these are only available as members of collectors’ proof sets of coins. Obviously, one would not want to actually use one of these for money as the metal in the coin is worth much more than the face value of the coin.
