What year did the 1st Egyptian pharaoh become pharaoh?
The first known Egyptian Pharaoh was Menes. Egyptologists believe he became Pharaoh sometime between 3100 BC and 2850 BC. The last Pharaoh was Cleopatra. Julius Caesar placed her on the throne in 47 BC. Cleopatra however was Greek, a descendant of the Macedonian general Ptolemy who seized control of Egypt after the death of Alexander the Great. The last native Egyptian Pharaoh was Nectanebo II. He ruled from 360 BC – 343 BC, the Persians then regaining control of Egypt (which they had occupied between 525 BC and 405 BC before a native Egyptian dynasty regained control).
